Dual Pass Opacity Monitor

Model 6010

The Model 6010, non-compliance opacity monitor, is an optical instrument designed to measure visible opacity (0 – 100%) in exhaust gas for duct, stack or flue combustion applications.

Overview

Why choose the Dual Pass Opacity Monitor Model 6010?

The Model 6010, Dual Pass Non-compliance Opacity monitor, is an optical instrument designed to measure visible opacity (0 – 100%) of exhaust gas in a duct, stack or flue. It utilizes double pass transmission measurement technique in which a light beam emitted from the transceiver passes across the stack to a reflector. The returned light intensity is measured by the transceiver.

The Model 6010 is available with or without a Controller Unit and can be used as a stand-alone configuration using a laptop/pc and the Utility Software supplied. The double pass measurement allows for manual calibration using the optional calibration head and zero/span adjustments.

Some of the benefits the double pass monitor are that its installation is simpler than single pass opacity monitors. It also offers better accuracy over shorter path lengths than the single pass opacity monitors. With no moving parts, reliability is excellent and the maintenance is reduced to the occasional cleaning of the TX and RX lenses. A latched head design provides easy access to lenses. An air purged body (blower recommended) provides the ability to further lengthen service intervals.

The Model 6010 is ideal for multiple applications including duct and tunnel monitoring as well as open space perimeter monitoring.

How does the double pass technique work?

The Model 6010 uses the double pass light transmission measurement technique, with a folded beam Transceiver/Reflector arrangement. A light beam emitted from the Transceiver (TRX) passes across the duct, stack or flue to a Reflector, which then returns the light to the Transceiver where the intensity of the received light is measured.

Increased particulate or smoke density in the stack gas attenuates the transmitted light and causes the intensity of the received light to fall. This reduction in intensity is measured and presented as % opacity. The higher the level of particulate or smoke present, the more light lost and therefore, the greater the opacity.
